The Iron Gospels by William Hache

Book Description:
When David wakes up surrounded by strangers dressed in white gowns chanting praise to a name as unfamiliar to him as his new environment, he is quick to realize that he carries no memory of how he arrived. In fact, he has little recollection of anything before this very moment. The only thing sure and real to him is the cluster of strange faces staring down at him with tears of glee. Together inbanded glory they shout and cry out the name of a prophet they call, John Cauliflower. For so long they have waited for a prophecy to be fulfilled; the 'great one' to be sent from the heavens to bring them salvation. Finally, here he lay before them in all his human form. Any and all plans to escape from this peculiar place alone in the middle of nowhere dwindle as time passes by faster than he can scrounge up a single memory from the dim corners of his mind. A witness to the many bizarre and horrific customs of this secluded society, David begins to lose more than his memory during his stay here. With each day that passes his mind, body and soul become filled with hatred and he unknowingly leans sternly towards the dark corners of his imagination where he becomes the essence of the one who all those around him have been begging for. Only now, he is something more than a savoir—he is an anomaly who will fulfill the darkest desires of whispers from beyond and the blackness of a tarnished heart.
Excerpt:
There were screams outside my tent at all hours of the dayand night. No longer were they only cries of joy and religious praise but of pain and begging for my hand of mercy. The dying ones cried out to me in the last desperate moments of life, having given up on The Prophet’s good name and The Master’s almighty word. As death called for them it was as if they finally saw a glimmer of reality and saw this place for what it really is; a sham run by a false god speaking in the name of a false prophet. These were the ones abandoned by the rest, left to die at my doorstep, their bodies taken away after a final breath. Though nothing was ever said, I knew how the others felt about them. Their gestures reeked of rejection and disappointment, for these were the frail ones who abandoned the word of John Cauliflower while the rest of them remained patient, obedient, waiting for the prophecy to be fulfilled.

Charles' father, a retired Major and a respected Magistrate, discovers the forgery and sends Charles to serve on a cargo ship separating him from his sweetheart, Florry. Charles escapes before the ship sails, and reaches his aunt 's London home only to be recaptured and sent back to the Wave Queen. Meanwhile Florry is propelled into a series of tumultuous events. At Destiny's End is a science fiction novel featuring a cynical, somewhat wisecracking main character, James Rawlings and his wife Cordette Chance, a princess who's homeworld Takara Prime is conquered by the Divinian Empire in the early part of the story. Princess Cordette Chance is about to step into the role of a lifetime, a dream come true. She is marrying James Rawlings, and James is nearly perfect: darkly handsome, gentle, charming. She doesn’t realize that by the end of her honeymoon, there might be a massive change in the balance of power in the galaxy that will change their lives forever. Masterfully interweaved dark, horror and icy realism, with an epic struggle to save the plague ridden Quinntessa from annihilation is at the forefront. But in biological warfare, even as the blood beats in James Rawlings' ears and he races after his new enemies, there is the hope that it will end. They find the final apocalypse yet to come like a Pandora's Box, every horror, every evil, every dark thing that haunts the future. Death is closer and could this all be the end? But until that day, it's gonna be one hell of a dogfight.

Excerpt:
Seething with anger, he decided, Two can play at that game! And my hull is stronger than your landing supports. Tapping the antigrav lever, he rose rapidly and crunched into the struts, and underbelly of the craft riding him. Hanging on to the joystick with both hands, he bucked like a bronco, dumping the unwanted rider. “James!” shouted Cordette. James glanced out the window in time to see the attacking whispercraft spin off, its undercarriage badly damaged. Fluttering like a wounded pelican, the whispercraft hit the calm water and sent up a tremendous plume. The whispercraft wasn’t completely destroyed, but it looked fairly well shattered. James felt a pang of grief, because he had never been the cause of an accident in his ten years of flying.
“Now we’re in trouble,” said Cordette. It was an accurate assessment. James scowled. “Maybe they’ll realize that if we can fly this well, we’re not turning back.” The other whispercraft on his left now moved away to a respectable distance, and James relaxed a bit at the controls. He continued to follow the pipeline toward the shimmering silhouette of land in the distance. At this point, he would normally feel relieved and happy to be so close to home, but today the sight of Walgren only brought him dread. What’s going to happen to Cordette and me? To all of Takara Prime? Without warning, a missile slammed into his right wing, shearing it off. Only his quick reactions on the antigrav lever kept them from plowing immediately into the ocean. Instead the whispercraft shot upward like a leaf caught on the breeze then it lost its momentum and slowly spiralled downward, a wounded bird. The whispercraft creaked, trying to hold together, and air howled ominously in the struts and ailerons. Cordette screamed, but the torrent of rushing air drowned her out. James tried all of his controls, but none were responsive—the whispercraft was in its death dive. Looking out the window only made his head whirl as fast as the scenery, and James shrieked. He tried to reach back for his wife, but she was scrunched down in her seat. “Oh, my dear...I’m so sorry!” As his whispercraft spiralled toward the pristine ocean, a tingling came over James’ body. He wondered whether this was the human Calm of Death he had heard so much about. The man reached back to grab his wife’s hand one last time, but her thin body shimmered like a mirage, breaking apart before his eyes. He gasped at the unexpected sight.
The whispercraft plunged erratically into the jade water, striking like a lopsided bullet and spewing a lopsided splash. Splinters from the sleek craft rained down upon the choppy waves, but James and Cordette weren’t aboard.

Excerpt:
When I was nineteen I decided to force drastic progress in my metamorphosis. I felt the process of change was moving too slow and I wanted to do something radical to push it forward. I elected to change my full name. I was surprised at how easy it was to do. I thought I would have to explain the what’s and why’s of my choice in front of a courtroom full of people, however, it was a simple process and legally I was no longer Antonia Olivia Preston. I walked out of the court house smiling at my victory, clutching the piece of paper that declared my name was now, by law, Tori Liddell. On the same day I changed my name, I had my first tattoo inked. A dark red star on the back of my right hand. It became a personal ritual to get a new tattoo every time I made a significant personal or lifestyle change. In addition to several more stars; I have colorful fish, hearts, skulls and Celtic patterns covering and circling my hands and arms. Every image has a story and significance to my personal mythos. A permanent outward testament to my personal revolution.
