Murder Mystery Book: Secrets of the Dead by John Luciew

Book Description:

In the streets of Harrisburg, a man is killed in what appears to be a straightforward hit-and-run - until the victim turns out to have no identity whatsoever. Obituary writer Lenny Holcomb's ability to glimpse the secrets of his column's subjects leads him to suspect that his old friend, ex-congressman George Packard, may have had a hand in the "accident." But if so, why do all the clues point to Packard's slick political rival? With the help of ambitious reporter Jacqueline Towers, Lenny follows a trail of political spin and corruption to the highest levels of Pennsylvania government - where the right influence can make any problem disappear. Unfortunately, some very powerful people think Lenny Holcomb has just become a problem ...In his sequel to Fatal Dead Lines and Death Notice, John Luciew doubles the action and triples the suspense. And the odds against Lenny Holcomb ever finding the truth couldn't be higher. It's a rip-roaring political yarn with an authentic, torn-from-the-headlines feel. You won't be able to put it down. Murder Mystery Book: Kill the Story by John Luciew

About the Book:

A serial killer known as "The Reader" is murdering journalists in the manner of their most famous stories. Dubbed the "Media Murders" by the press, the killings baffle authorities, turn once-aggressive reporters into prey and shock the country in what soon becomes a national story. The cunning killer's first strike is cleverly disguised as a political assassination, mirroring John Hinckley's attempt on Ronald Reagan. As it turns out, the fallen reporter had covered Reagan's shooting. It's the first of several bizarre killings with eerie similarities to sensational stories the murdered journalists once covered. The story is so big, The New York Times assigns its new national reporter, Cassandra "Cassie" Jordan, to cover its every development. The assignment returns Cassie to her familiar stomping grounds of Harrisburg, Pa., reuniting her with Frank "Telly" Tellis, chief political reporter for The Harrisburg Herald. Only Telly can put together the murderous truth as the secret motive for the killings is buried deep in his journalistic past. But can he solve the puzzle before falling under The Reader's deadly crosshairs? John Luciew, the author of FATAL DEAD LINES, once again plumbs the depths of power, politics and the press, and the result is pulse-pounding suspense. Buy now at Amazon.

Science Fiction Novel: Ground State - Odyssey of the Last Scientist by Anthony Stender

About the Book:

Science seems to advance more rapidly with every passing year. Yet, some day in the not so distant future, the age of science will reach its peak and begin to fade away. Such is the setting for Ground State. Unbeknownst to most of the world, the last great scientific discoveries are being made at a facility operated by the Committee. The Committee is a secretive government contractor that freely ignores ethics in order to accomplish its goals and to keep its employees in line. Into this environment steps Tracy Stenzel, a bright and humble young woman. Tracy always wanted to be a scientist, but like many brilliant minds before her, she feels stymied by departmental politics during graduate school. As a result, Tracy quits school and accepts a promising position with the Committee. Within a year's time, Tracy is transformed into a cunning and valuable member of the group. However, she has also lost her innocence and all connections with her family. At first, Tracy accepts her new life and all of the sacrifices that go with it. But in time, Tracy becomes depressed, and her orderly way of life falls apart. Only time will tell whether or not Tracy has to make the ultimate sacrifice for her chosen path. Meanwhile, Tracy's co-workers are busily attempting advanced experiments in physics, biology, and chemistry. Some experiments succeed, while others fail miserably. But they all involve Tracy in some way. Ground State is the first novel in the series, Odyssey of the Last Scientist. It is a story filled with suspense, action, and humor. Several important themes are explored in the novel, such as: the dangers of abandoning ethics and morals, the effects of totalitarianism on the individual, and the value of practicing discernment. Ground State is a project that I began in the spring of 1996, although a couple of the chapters date back farther than that. When I started working on this book, I was mainly focused on the scientific experiments, and it made for a very short tale. Every few years, I would revisit the story, and I would end up editing it in some way. The finished story is actually focused on the people and their relationships. Science is still important to the story. It's the common bond that's shared by this group of intriguing people. Remove the science, and the plot would remain unchanged. But science defines who these people are. They trained to be scientists, and it's the kind of work they want to do. They can't imagine doing anything else. You don't need to be a scientist to understand and enjoy the story. Ground State, and the novels to follow in this series, can be read and enjoyed on many levels. Science is about asking difficult questions and searching for answers. So is Ground State.

About the Author:

Anthony Stender is a graduate student and researcher in chemistry at Iowa State University. Anthony also holds a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a M.S. in meteorology from the South Dakota School of Mines, and a certificate in forensic science from Hamline University. Anthony is a resident of Young America, Minnesota. Ground State is Anthony's first novel.

Suspense Thriller: Death Dealt The Hand by John E. Bailor

Book Description:

When Special Agent Trevor Byrne investigates the hasty approval of an experimental AIDS treatment, he uncovers a plot by genetics lab DNAY to unleash a deadly toxin on the world. Can Trevor stop DNAY before it's too late?

Author Bio:

With a lifelong love of books, television, and movies, it was only a matter of time until I wrote a novel. As a Pennsylvania native, it's no surprise much of my debut thriller, Death Dealt the Hand, takes place in Central PA. What was a surprise was having the first release of the novel ranked one of the Top Ten Books of 2007!

Even with the success my first book achieved, when Gryphonwood Press began discussions to republish Death Dealt the Hand, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to tweak the story.

My first professionally published work was the short story "Operation: Desert Destroyer," which was included in Warren Murphy's anthology Destroyer World: New Blood.

I'm a bank manager by day, with twenty-plus years in the financial industry. I enjoy working at a local bank and helping people and businesses with their financial needs.

I'm always learning more about writing and am a member of Pennwriters. Currently several project are in the works, including the second Trevor Byrne novel, A Devastating Death.
Death Dealt The Hand is available at Amazon.
